The Importance of Summer Groups for Children’s Growth and Development

As we embark on the summer months, many children (and parents!) breathe a sigh of relief. The structure and routine of school days give way to long, lazy summer days filled with adventure and relaxation. While summer vacation can be a wonderful time for children, it's also a critical period for continued growth and development.

For younger children, summer is a time to build upon the skills they learned during the school year and prepare for the upcoming kindergarten experience. Our Preschool Sensory Motor Group is designed specifically for children ages 3-4, providing them with the opportunity to develop important social skills such as turn-taking and cooperation. These skills are essential for success in kindergarten and beyond, and our group will help your child get a head start.

For older children, summer can be a time of transition and adjustment. The structure and routine of school are replaced with longer days and more freedom, which can sometimes lead to feelings of restlessness and boredom. Our Don't Let Your Emotions Ruin Your Life group is designed specifically for children ages 9-12, teaching them essential self-awareness, mindfulness, and self-management skills to help them navigate these feelings and stay focused on their goals.

For families supporting children on the autism spectrum, summer can be a time of uncertainty and anxiety. How will my child adapt to the changes in routine? Will they struggle with social interactions? Our Autism Education & Advocacy Group is here to provide support and guidance, offering resources and strategies to help you better understand your child's needs and advocate for them.

In addition to our group programs, our Summer Intensives offer an excellent opportunity for children to target specific areas of need. From sensory integration to emotional regulation, handwriting to motor skills, our expert therapists will work one-on-one with your child to address these areas and help them catch up or get ahead of the curve for the upcoming school year.

At Child's Play Therapy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive, regardless of their age or abilities. Our summer groups and intensives are designed to provide a safe, supportive environment where children can learn, play, and develop essential skills. By investing in your child's growth and development over the summer months, you'll set them up for success in the years to come.

Don't let the summer slide away without giving your child the tools they need to succeed. Register now for one of our summer groups or intensives and give them the gift of growth, development, and a strong foundation for the upcoming school year. Contact us today to learn more about our programs and how we can support your child's journey towards growth and success.
